On display at the auction house Bonhams & Butterfields, a very rare Ming underglaze copper red dish recently discovered within the San Francisco Estate of Elinor Majors Carlisle, where it was used for years as a serving dish for family meals of crab The large 46-centimeter dish dates from the Hongwu Period (1368-98) and is one of very few surviving from this era. The piece carries a pre-sale estimate of one to two million US dollars.
