1950 Pez Poster featuring original Pez Dispenser on display inside Gary Doss' Pez Museum in Burlingame, CA, the only one of its kind in the world. The candy was originally called "Pfefferminz" (German word for peppermint) but a bit later shortened to"Pez". Doss, 50, owns every single Pez dispenser ever produced by the Austrian-based company, Pez Candy Inc. Ten years ago, Doss and his wife, Nancy, turned their collection of around 500 pieces into a museum open to the public. He also buys sells and trades Pez dispensers through his store inside the museum and the Internet.
More than 10,000 visitors from around the world come to the Pez Museum every year. The first Pez dispensers were introduced in 1948 but had the trademark heads four years later only. Pez dispensers are collected worldwide and seven Pez international conventions are held every year.
