File picture taken on April 30, 1975 by MGySgt John Valdez, The Last US Marine In Saigon, of an aerial view of the Combined Recreational Association (CRA) and swimming pool of the US Embassy in Saigon. The CRA compound showing trash and debris left over from the evacuation. During the evacuation in process, the Marines would search South Vietnamese prior to assembling them in a landing zone (LZ) to get them on board the helicopters. Any weapons found would be thrown into the swimming pool. MgySgt. Valdez took these pictures after the last Marines locked themselves in the Embassy and were waiting for CH-46 helicopters to air-lift them to the US warships at sea.
