Homeowners having trouble paying their mortgages arrive at one of the symposiums organized by Hope Now in Stockton, CA, on 03/07/2008. The event is an effort to bring together lenders and borrowers to negotiate the restructuring of their loans in order to prevent short-sales and foreclosures. Stockton, formally a bucolic Californian farming town, is considered the epicenter of the subprime mortgage crisis in the US. Thousands have been foreclosed and more are expected in the near.
